Friday night, House Bill 2, the omnibus bill restricting women’s healthcare choices, was passed by the Texas Senate and is now on its way to the Governor to be signed into law.
Twenty amendments were offered to try to improve the bill, like an exception for victims of rape/incest, an exception to protect the mental health of the woman, and provisions to help clinics in rural areas. None were accepted.
Although the immediate outcome is daunting, the grassroots action we have seen is inspiring. The collective voice of women (and men) across the state may have been ignored by Texas legislators, but it has grabbed the attention of the state and nation.
HB 2 will likely face litigation in the courts. Please help us ensure that the Me and My OBG network continues to grow. Forward this message to your friends and family. Let’s stay engaged on this issue and any others affecting the doctor-patient relationship.
We are in this for the long run.
