The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) is soliciting applications to fill three positions on the Newborn Screening Advisory Committee. One position is for a physician licensed to practice medicine in the State of Texas; the second position is for a hospital representative; and the third position is for a healthcare provider who is involved in the delivery of newborn screening services, follow-up, or treatment in this state. The terms for the three positions expired on April 30, 2014. The purpose of the committee is to advise the DSHS regarding strategic planning, policy, rules, and services related to newborn screening and additional newborn screening tests.
Members are appointed for three year terms and the committee is required to meet at least three times per year, either in person or by teleconference. Committee members are entitled to reimbursement for allowable travel expenses while on committee business.
People who wish to be considered for a position on the committee must complete an application and include at least two letters of recommendation. The application can be accessed here:
Completed applications, including two letters of recommendation, must be mailed to the following address and received by May 31, 2014.
Please note that incomplete applications will not be considered. Resumes, curriculum vitae, and additional supporting documentation not specifically requested will not be considered.
In considering members to serve on an advisory committee, the DSHS Commissioner considers the individual’s qualifications for the position, background, and interest in serving on the committee. The Commissioner also attempts to achieve diversity by considering ethnicity, gender, and geographic location in order for committees to represent the diversity of all Texas citizens.
