The Me & My OBG doctor of the month is Karen G. Swenson, M.D. of  Austin, Texas. Dr. Swenson earned a B.S. in Nutrition Science with highest honors from the University of California, Davis and received her medical training at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Dr. SwensonAfter completing her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center, she was appointed Administrative Chief Resident. She was board certified by the ACOG in 1987.

Swenson is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and an active member of the American Medical Women’s Association, the Texas Medical Association and Foundation, the Texas OB/GYN Society, the Travis County Medical Society, and the Austin OB/GYN Society. She is a founding member of the Austin Center For Sexual Medicine, which provides specialty care and consultation for sexual dysfunction.

Why did you choose obstetrics and gynecology?
‘Primary care, Long term relationships with patients. Privilege and Joy of delivering babies.’

What’s your favorite “a day in the life of an OB/GYN” story?
‘To always expect the unexpected. Delivering in the “olden days” undiagnosed twins.’
