ACOG-District XI (Texas) Chair Moss Hampton, MD released today a statement regarding the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision on Texas House Bill 2 (2013). The bill that required all Texas facilities performing abortions to meet hospital-like standards.
“We are pleased with the decision of the Supreme Court reversing Texas HB 2. We believe that abortion is a very private and complex decision that should be between a woman and her physician.
We strongly support improving the safety of all procedures for all of our patients. HB 2 clearly placed an undue burden on women seeking an abortion, and would do nothing meaningful to improve the outcome of an already very safe procedure.
We hope that future legislative efforts will be directed toward real improvements in patients’ access to quality health care, including contraceptive services to prevent unplanned pregnancies.”
