We are pleased to announce that Rose Ann Huynh, MD, from UT Health San Antonio, is the newly selected ACOG Toy Advocacy Fellow! This is a two-year fellowship that works closely with the Fellow legislative chair and lobbyist to coordinate state legislative efforts on activities related to the practice of obstetrics and gynecology. In this position, she will advocate for the women of Texas and the physicians that care for them so that their voices are heard.

Dr. HuynhDr. Huynh received her Bachelor of Science in Engineering at Tulane University, Masters of Science at the University of Houston, and her Doctorate of Medicine at the University of Texas Health San Antonio Long School of Medicine. Her career goal is to improve women’s health through direct patient care, creating new tools, and advocacy.

When asked why she was interested in the position, Dr. Huynh shared, “I have experience with formal advocacy during my time in medical school from presenting and editing resolutions to speaking directly to my state representatives at the Texas State Capitol. I believe physicians should play an active role in shaping healthcare legislation, and I know the Toy Advocacy Fellowship will provide me the tools to accomplish this for myself and fellow colleagues. This COVID-19 pandemic has taught us that we need more medical professionals and scientists in government in order to improve public health. We can make a difference!”

Dr. Huynh will stay up to date on proposed legislation by attending District XI Legislative Committee and other leadership meetings, utilizing ACOG advocacy resources, and by forming relationships with local state representative offices. She feels strongly about physicians staying connected with their local representative. To learn who represents you, visit the Who Represents Me? portal.
